Because arbitration doesn’t care that Jarome Iginla had his retirement press conference, the world of hockey signings continues to move along. Calgary inked Garnet Hathaway to a 1 year contract worth $850,000 today.
Hathaway had a fairly productive season last year, but tailed off as the calendar turned. He finished with 59 GP and he had a total of 13 points (4G 9A). It looked for a bit like the Flames had found a diamond in the rough by waiting for another young player to develop, but Hathaway’s production really dipped after December. From October to December he had 7 points. The remaining 6 came in the last 4 months of the season, his final point being a goal in Calgary’s last game of the season against the Golden Knights. He finished the season with 88 PIM, good for the top spot on the Flames roster.
