So I’m going to be honest and admit I got really hyped about Spencer Foo after his late-season stint with the Flames. I thought he showed a lot of promise and really started to drive play once he got significant opportunities in the lineup.

Prior to the Flames making their Carolina deal and signing James Neal, I actually thought Foo could have a shot at a top nine role, maybe even top six. However, with the Flames lineup looking pretty stacked now, he’ll have to scrap for any roster spot at the NHL level.

His two goals in four games in the NHL were impressive, and he put up 39 points in 62 games in Stockton as well. The bulk of his points came in the second half of the season after taking some time to adjust to the pro game.

At 24 years of age the clock is already ticking on Foo, but he made some significant improvements during his first year. He could potentially carve out a bottom six role in training camp, but it’ll be tough. That’s exactly what Brad Treliving wants as well, no easy spots at Flames camp.
