You knew this day was eventually coming, but it was a matter of when. The when is July 30th. The Flames will host a press conference with their legendary captain, officially announcing his retirement from the NHL.

After sitting out all of last season and playing 1554 career NHL games, the product of Edmonton is leaving the rink for good. Jarome Iginla played 16 seasons for the Flames, playing in 1219 games, scoring 525 goals and collecting 570 assists. But stats aside, Jarome Iginla WAS and IS the Calgary Flames. No player will ever be associated more with the Flames than #12. For most of us he was the link to the past and the future, settling in very comfortably as the Flames 15th captain, a post he held from 2003-2013, the longest stretch ever by a Flames player.

We will have much more in the coming days on Jarome Iginla and anything associated with the retirement announcement.
