NHL: Boston Bruins at Calgary Flames Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

#20: Morgan Klimchuk

Position: Left Wing

Age: 23

Team: Stockton Heat (AHL)

Drafted in 2013, 1st Round, Pick 28

Last Year Ranking: #20

Voting Points: 745

Much like Hunter Shinkaruk a couple days ago, we’re really stuck trying to figure out what Morgan Klimchuk is and what his future with the Flames seems to be. He just signed a new one-year deal with the Flames on Sunday but a lot of signs seem to point to this being his last year with the Flames organization.

It’s not all on Klimchuk either as the Flames have really beefed up their forward lineup at the NHL level, and have seen the emergence of Andrew Mangiapane and Spencer Foo as winger prospects in Stockton.

For our Top 25 Under 25 voting, Klimchuk was the first big step up in terms of vote/point totals, finishing nearly 300 points ahead of #21 Adam Ruzicka.

Klimchuk had a pretty good year with Stockton, putting up 19 goals and 21 assists in 62 games, and he made his NHL debut against Boston in February. Should he be called up this year, Klimchuk will require waivers to return to Stockton.

Brad Treliving expressed confidence in Klimchuk the other day, but it will really be up to him to win a spot come training camp in October. He’s the final piece left from the Jarome Iginla trade, it’d be a shame to see him go too.
