The Calgary Flames have added to their forward core by signing forward Austin Czarnik. Czarnik is currently 25 years old.

Czarnik’s deal will be for 2 years with an AAV of $1.25M, for a $2.5M total.

Czarnik worked his way up through the Boston Bruins system after being undrafted. He spent four years at Miami University (Ohio) before playing his first full season in 2015-16 with the Providence Bruins. Czarnik put up 61 points in 68 games and earned AHL All-Rookie Team honours.

He split 2016-17 between Boston and Providence, putting up 13 points in 49 games in Boston, and 23 points in 22 games for Providence.

Czarnik spent most of 2017-18 in Providence, picking up 69 points in 64 games. He also had 4 assists in 10 games with Boston.

The most interesting part of this signing is that 24 teams reportedly inquired about Czarnik so its exciting that a highly sought after free agent chose Calgary.
