Our Individual Grades

MarkParkinson14: (C) Michael Stone is like whole milk, vanilla ice cream and khaki’s: meh. I don’t love him, I don’t hate him, I’m just indifferent. That’s how I feel about his season. Meh.

MGMacGillivray: (D+) I liked the decision to trade for him last year to get Dennis Wideman out of the lineup. I did not like the decision to re-sign him and give up another pick in doing so. I did not like the decision to sign him for three years when the Flames clearly knew they had some good D prospects getting close and had just traded for Travis Hamonic. He does use his body and has a nice shot (which rarely hits the net a la Wideman), but I don’t think he does anything better than Rasmus Andersson or even Deryk Engelland could’ve done. It’s not that he dragged the team down, I just don’t think he really pushed them up either, and with the term and payment he got, it was kind of disappointing.

MilhouseFirehouse: (C) Does he make a little too much money? Sure, but none of us are GM’s that wind up having to make that decision and I don’t think we should pretend to be. Stone’s numbers dropped off across the board this year, and at times he certainly struggled in possession scenarios and battles in the corners. On the plus, Stone still possesses offensive upside, a right handed shot, and a killer slapshot that should be utilized much more than it is. There’s likely gonna be some clutter on the right side of the blueline next year, so we’ll see where that lands him and if he sinks or swims moving forward.
