Our Individual Grades

MarkParkinson14: (D) There just wasn’t enough of Kris Versteeg to make a difference for the Flames this past season. A nagging injury kept Versteeg out for much of 2017-18 and when he did come back he quickly went right back to being injured. He had only 8 points in 24 games in 2017-18, but he was sorely missed on the Flames PP.

MGMacGillivray: (C) He looked okay at the start of the year and the powerplay suffered after his injury. Ultimately I think he was fine, but we really couldn’t judge him too well based off his limited action last year. Did the Flames miss the playoffs because the powerlay struggled without him? Prior to his injury they were clicking at 22.1% (11th), after his injury it fell to 13.5% (30th). Is Versteeg the Flames X-Factor, or can he be replaced? Will be interesting to see if they re-sign him.

MilhouseFirehouse: (D) Tough to grade a guy who only played a third of the year, and who spent his 5-on-5 minutes that he did play alongside the likes of Brouwer, Lazar, Stajan, and Jagr. And as soon as he was out of the lineup, you could have played a drinking game with how often people talked about how much he was missed on powerplays and in the shootout. While he did make a comeback from his hip injury, he was shut back down as soon as the Flames’ playoffs hopes were toast. More games next year on a healthy hip, and there’s no reason for the Flames not to give him another year.

RenuSahota: (B)
