Individual Grades

MarkParkinson14: (C) And that’s a fairly generous “C.” Frolik had by far his worst season in a Flames uniform in 2017-18. While still valued for his defence and penalty killing, his offence went into the tank. The 25 points he collected over 70 games was his lowest in 5 years and his worst output since joining the Flames. Last season his contributions to the 3M Line were critical, this season not so much. Frolik’s play may have played him off the 3M Line and down to a bottom 6 role. Not exactly what you want from a guy who’s locked up for 2 more seasons at $4.3 million a season.

MGMacGillivray: (C-) Prior to his mid-season jaw injury, I thought Frolik had actually been playing quite well, but he fell off a cliff after he returned and barely looked like a shade of himself the rest of the way. My hope is that this was an outlier and he can return to his previous form next season. He’s still a pretty good middle six forward, but he needs to get back to around 40 points in order to still be an effective option. His defensive play is still pretty good, but the Flames simply need more at the offensive end.

MilhouseFirehouse: (C) Frolik posted a -19, the worst +/- of his pro career, but the rest of the 3M Line posted minuses this year too. Chalk that up to the fact that line draws a lot of tough matchups, and of course Frolik sees a ton of PK time. Michael also posted his worst single season point total as a Flame this year. While I don’t think he was particularly bad at any point, he never really had stretches where he shined either.
