Fan Poll Friday

Mike Smith is with the Flames on their current road trip and he’s been skating and taking some shots at practice. That’s very good news for the team and it’s fan base. Calgary has struggled since Smith went down on February 11th with a groin injury. David Rittich and Jon Gillies have handled the goaltending duties since, but the results have been mixed. Rittich has gone 2-4-1, while Gillies has gone 2-2-1.

Now, Gillies and Rittich are partially to blame for their play since Smith’s injury, but the Flames MVP has masked A LOT of the team’s deficiencies this season. When the Flames are struggling to score, Smith always makes the extra saves to keep the Flames in games they really have no business being in. The other two just aren’t as experienced as Smith and it shows.

The Flames playoff hopes are hanging precariously on a ledge. Calgary is 3 points behind LA for the final Wild Card spot in the West and it’s not looking good. Presuming Mike Smith comes back soon we’re asking if he is enough to save the Flames season? Vote in our poll below!
