The Morning After The Rangers

The Flames ran into what might be the hottest goaltender in the NHL last night.

Here’s the rest of the best of what wasn’t covered in the Recap or Rate The Flames from Calgary’s 3-1 loss to the NY Rangers.

-Is It The Shot Selection or The Goalie?: Calgary put 51 shots on net last night and were only able to come away with 1 goal. Yes, Lundqvist was outstanding last night, but when you send 51 shots at the 4×6 something has to go in right? The Flames have 121 SOG in their last 3 games resulting in…..3 goals. Not good enough.

First Goal Blues: The Flames gave up the first goal of the night for the second time in 3 games and the result was another loss. Calgary has had a bad habit of doing that his year and with their struggles scoring and winning lately, playing from behind isn’t an option. At least they didn’t blow a lead last night. Then again, you have to have a lead to blow one.

3M Line Still Going: Once again, the 3M Line was a key to the getting the Flames on the board. Michael Frolik and Matthew Tkachuk each had an assist on Brett Kulak’s second goal of the season.

Penalties: THE FLAMES ONLY TOOK 3 PENALTIES!!!! There’s something good from this game.

Congrats To Lundqvist: We try to highlight the Flames in this column, but you have to tip your hat to Henrik Lundqvist. Last night’s 50 save performance was the first time in NHL history a goalie has had back to back 50 save performances in consecutive wins. No matter who you root for, that’s impressive.
