……But they probably won’t.

Calgary Flames @ LA Kings, 8:30 PM MT, Staples Center, Los Angeles CA

The Flames close out a 2 game road trip with a loss to the LA Kings…..oh wait, this is the preview, not the recap. Calgary will look to halt a 5 game losing streak tonight as they head to LA to battle the Kings. Bahahahaha. Good luck with that. Johnny Gaudreau. Sean Monahan. Matthew Tkachuk. T.J. Brodie. Kris Versteeg. That’s just a sampling of who won’t be playing tonight for the Flames. Don’t ask who is. The Flames have scored a robust 7 goals in their last 5 games and have been shut out twice. They’ve lost 6 of their last 7. There’s no playoffs. They are playing like they’ve already checked out. This should be an entertaining contest.

LA on the other hand is doing something the Flames aren’t doing: fighting for their playoff lives. LA is sitting at 89 points in 9th place in the West, tied in points with St. Louis. It’s been a struggle as of late for the Kings who came surging back into the playoff picture in the last month. After a solid month of February, LA hasn’t been able to gain any traction as they are stuck in a “win one, lose one” rut all month long. But hey, they’re still within striking distance of the playoffs, so good for them. Better than just trying to stay ahead of Edmonton.

The Flames have beaten the Kings twice this season, but that was back when the Flames were actually decent. Expect the Kings to mop the floor with this lifeless Flames team tonight and send them to their 6th straight loss. GO FLAMES GO!

LA Kings Coverage: Jewels From The Crown

Last Time Out

Calgary Flames 1 San Jose Sharks 5

The Sharks were good, the Flames were not. Evander Kane likes the Flames. Here’s our recap and the highlights from NHL.com

LA Kings 2 Edmonton Oilers 3

LA continued their “win one, lose one” pattern Saturday as they fell to the Edmonton Oilers 3-2. Connor McDavid netted two in the contest to take down the Kings. In other news the sun rises, the sun sets. Here’s the highlights.

Players To Watch

Calgary Flames

There are none.

LA Kings

Anze Kopitar (C). Kopitar has 6 points in his last 4 games including a 4 goal effort in LA’s 7-1 victory over Colorado last week. He also has 4 points in 3 games against the Flames this season. I’m afraid of what he will do tonight against Calgary’s split squad, preseason lineup.
