The Morning After San Jose

Slip sliding away………

Here’s the rest of the best of what wasn’t covered in the Recap or Rate The Flames from Calgary’s 7-4 loss to the San Jose Sharks.

Micheal Ferland

Micheal Ferland has struggled since the calendar turned to February, but last night he finally able to find the back of the net. The Flames forward had a goal and an assist, giving him 39 points on the season, 21 of those are goals. He scored for the first time since since February 1st, a span of 16 games.

Rough One For Smitty

Mike Smith took another one on the chin last night, giving up 6 goals on 28 shots. He was yanked 1:02 into the third period after surrendering his 6th of the night in a game where he and the defence looked terrible. Bad timing on both of their ends.

Bottom 6 Redemption

Yes, Calgary looked bad last night, but the bottom 6 had a very good showing points wise. Look, we’ll take a positive where we can get one. Both Mark Jankowski and Troy Brouwer scored goals, while Kris Versteeg (first game back), Garnet Hathaway, Matt Stajan and Curtis Lazar all had assists.

Tip Your Cap

Remember that malcontent Evander Kane with the bad attitude who you wouldn’t want on the Flames? Yeah, he scored 4 goals last night. Apparently the Flames were one of the teams he would have considered, but instead he’s in San Jose and he may have just helped eliminate the Flames from the playoffs.

Playoff Update

This feels like an exercise in futility, but the Flames are 4 games out of the last Wild Card spot, 4 points behind Anaheim, LA, Colorado and Dallas.
