More of the Same: Flames Lose to Ducks

Another stinker

NHL: Anaheim Ducks at Calgary Flames Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

A story that we’ve seen a lot this season played out once again.

1st Period: Calgary Flames 0, Anaheim Ducks 1

What can really be said about the first period other than it was more of the same for the Flames as of late. Calgary controlled a good chunk of the play, outshooting the Ducks and coming close to scoring but not finishing.

Calgary would get a powerplay that would get a Dougie Hamilton post but nothing else before Andrew Cogliano took advantage of a small mistake and scored a shorthanded goal to give the Ducks the lead.

Again, more of the same.

2nd Period: Calgary Flames 0, Anaheim Ducks 3

After an actually good looking penalty kill, the Flames would start to grab some momentum and generate chances early in the period.

However, it was the Ducks who would score next with a goal coming from Ondrej Kase on a weak backhand as he was falling down that slid slowly through Smith’s five hole. More of the same.

Again the Flames would push and get some more chances but be unable to score. Hampus Lindolm would make it 3-0 with a fluttering shot late in the period.

More of the same.

3rd Period: Calgary Flames 0, Anaheim Ducks 4

David Rittich entered the game to start the third period after Smith allowed three goals on eleven shots.

Nothing of note really happened during the period as both teams wound down the clock with the result no longer in doubt. Francois Beauchemin got a late goal as well.

More of the same.

Flame of the Game

Edmonton Oilers v Calgary Flames

Matt Stajan (F): I feel bad that his 1000th game was such a crapfest. Nobody played that well on the Flames but I’ll give it to him because I’m feeling nice.
