Here’s the rest of the best of what wasn’t covered in the Recap or Rate The Flames from Calgary’s 5-1 win over the Colorado Avalanche.
New Starter?: Jon Gillies is definitely making the Flames think. The 24 year old netminder got his second straight start and won his second straight game. Gillies has only surrendered 3 goals in the two starts on a combined 66 shots. He’s lowered his GAA to 2.54 and his Save % is up to .914. Win and you’re in?
2nd Is Tops: The 3M Line or a member of the 3M Line (Matthew Tkachuk had a PP assist) chipped in on all but 1 of the Flames 5 goals last night. Mikael Backlund had a 3 point night (1G 2A), Michael Frolik opened the scoring and Matthew Tkachuk had 2 helpers. The Flames needed someone outside of Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan to score and this was a welcome sight.
Home Win!: The Flames actually won a game on home ice! The win improves the Flames record at the Saddledome to 14-14-4. The Flames home record since the calendar turned to 2018 is 3-3-5.
Another PPG: The Flames scored twice on the PP last night, giving them a PPG in 8 of their last 9 games. Not bad for a team that had some serious struggles only 2 weeks ago.
