About Last Night: Arizona Cures What Ails Ya

Takeaways and post game reaction from the Flames 5-2 victory over the Arizona Coyotes.

Here’s the rest of the best of what wasn’t covered in the Recap or Rate The Flames from Calgary’s 5-2 win over the Arizona Coyotes.

-Special Teams Were Special: The Flames special teams were in full effect last night. Calgary scored a PPG (Sean Monahan), a short handed goal (Mark Jankowski) and they killed all 5 penalties they took. Not a bad night at all for the Flames man up and man down units.

-Speaking Of Penalties: 9. That’s how many penalties were handed out in this contest. The zebras earned their pay checks in this one. While some were ticky-tacky, at least the refs called it even. Calgary took 5 penalties and Arizona took 4. Hooking was the flavour of the night as 5 of the 9 penalties called were for hooking.

-Shuffling: The Flames left Las Vegas, but there was still shuffling to be done. Micheal Ferland was sent down to the 3rd line and Sam Bennett took his place up top with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan. The results were immediately good for the Flames. Bennett had a goal and an assist, while Johnny Gaudreau had a goal and 2 assists and Sean Monahan had a goal (PP, so not with his linemates) and an assist. Wonder if these lines will remain intact?

-The Old Micheal Ferland Made An Appearance: Matt Stajan received a wicked shot from Zac Rinaldo in the first period and Stajan left the ice for a bit. Micheal Ferland quickly responded and let Rinaldo know what he thought of the hit by absolutely knocking the snot out of Rinaldo. Ferland hasn’t displayed that portion of his game in a while, maybe being dropped down 2 lines got his blood boiling.
