Sean Monahan Named NHL’s First Star of the Week

The Flames centre was dominant in four Flames victories

NHL: Chicago Blackhawks at Calgary Flames Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

Sean Monahan has been named the NHL’s first star of the week. Monahan had a fantastic week, posting four goals and four assists in only four games. The Flames ended up getting wins in all four of those games, propelled by the strong play of Monahan and their other top players.

According to hockey-reference.com, this is Monahan’s first ever first star rating, and only his second time making the list, after a third star ranking back in March of 2016. It’s actually hard to believe this is only his second time in the three star rankings for a player who’s #16 in goals scored since he entered the NHL.

After a career year in 2017-18, Monahan looks poised to beat those numbers with 8 goals and 10 assists in just 15 games so far this year. Weeks like this past one will certainly help.
