Calgary Flames 10-7-1 (21 points) – Montreal Canadiens 9-6-3 (21 points)

NHL Standings

The Flames will finally get back on the ice after a nice break to take on the Montreal Canadiens Thursday night. Calgary will be happy to see the ice of the Saddledome after a 1-2-0 trip through California that saw their goal scoring dry up along the way. Calgary only lit the lamp 4 times on the trip, clearly not enough to get the job done. Despite only bringing home 2 of a possible 6 points on the trip Calgary still sits in 2nd place in the Pacific Division, only 1 point behind front running Vancouver.

What a difference a conference makes. The Canadiens have the same 21 points as the Flames, yet their 21 finds them in 5th place in the Atlantic Division (4 behind Tampa Bay). Montreal is stuck in a win one, lose one rut that has taken over their season. They haven’t put together 2 or more win in a row since a 3 game winning streak from October 13th to the 17th. The Canadiens have dropped 6 out of their last 10 and goaltending has been an issue. In 8 of those 10 games they’ve surrendered 4 or more goals, while scoring 4 or more only five times.

Montreal took the first meeting between these two teams 3-2 back on October 23rd sending the Flames into a 3 game spiral. Since that three game losing skid the Flames have gone 5-2-0, Montreal has gone 4-5-1. With that said the Canadiens are 3-2-0 in their last 5 visits to the Saddledome.
