Calgary Flames @ LA Kings, 8 PM MT, Staples Center, Los Angeles CA
TV: CBC, SN, SN360
Radio: Sportsnet 960
Calgary Flames 9-6-1 (19 points) - LA Kings 5-9-1 (11 points)
The Flames will look to get back on the winning track tonight as the make their second stop in California to take on the struggling LA Kings. Calgary had a 4 game winning streak snapped on Wednesday at the hands of the Anaheim Ducks 3-2. It was another rough start for Mike Smith and although the Flames generated some 3rd period magic, the Ducks were just a little bit better when it counted. Calgary is in luck though, they draw the Kings at a time when LA is old, slow and playing generally bad.
The Kings sit dead last in the Western Conference with 11 points and are only 1 win ahead of the Florida Panthers for last place in the NHL. LA has had 3 losing streaks of 4 games or more, with the last one being a herculean 6 game losing streak where they scored 2 goals or more only 1 time. The Kings offence is suffering drought like conditions as they sit dead last in the NHL with only 33 GF, a paltry 2.2 goals per game average. Where the Kings have found success is in killing penalties. LA sits at #10 in the league, killing 81.8% of their man down situations (8 for 44).
Calgary has a golden opportunity to get back the 2 points they gave Anaheim on Wednesday with a strong showing against a weaker and sinking opponent. The Flames are 2-5-0 in their last 7 trips to LA, but the Kings are 2-8-0 against teams from the Pacific Division in 2018-19.
