The Flames tied it late, then Johnny Hockey did his thing

For much of the night, it looked like Carter Hutton was going to post a shutout and the Flames were going to fall despite being the better team. It looked like it was going to be the type of loss we’ve gotten used to over the last few years, anemic power play and all.

Then it didn’t happen. Matthew Tkachuk tied the game with under a minute to play (then took a penalty at the end of regulation but it was killed so let’s pretend it didn’t happen.) Then in overtime, after the great aforementioned kill, Johnny Gaudreau would end it on a slick 2-on-1 play with Mark Giordano, and the Flames would have their second victory in as many nights. David Rittich was stellar again, and the Flames end October at 7-5-1.
