Calgary Flames at Vancouver Canucks [Game 1]

NHL: Preseason-Calgary Flames at San Jose Sharks Stan Szeto-USA TODAY Sports

The long wait for NHL hockey has finally ended as teams start to take back to the ice. The NHL season is finally here, everyone is tied at zero points, rosters are set, and pucks are ready to drop. New players that have proven their worth in preseason are looking to stick with their big clubs while veterans will try to prove they still have it.

For Calgary Fldmes fans, the wait for hockey was longer than they would have liked. The Flames traded their first and second round picks for Travis Hamonic last off-season a move that was supposed to sure them up for the playoff run. Instead, the bottom to pairings were a sore spot, the bottom six forwards got their teeth kicked in, goaltending depth proved non-existent, and the Flames missed the playoffs.

As a result, the roster has been overhauled and the coach has been displaced. All of the changes will be tested tonight as they take on the Vancouver Canucks at 8:00 P.M M.S.T. Mike Smith is in net. Will the Flames finally break through? If not, will this season spell the demise of Brad Treliving?

Here goes nothing!
