Who’s on the Ice Today?

The Flames have made a number of changes ahead of today’s contest

NHL: Nashville Predators at Calgary Flames Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

The Calgary Flames will welcome the defending Stanley Cup champion Washington Capitals to the Scotiabank Saddledome this afternoon. The Flames are fresh off a whopping 9-1 defeat at the hands of Pittsburgh, and now their facing arguably even better competition in Washington.

As a result, the Flames have made a number of lineup changes going into today’s game with the Caps, and here’s how they shake out.

Forwards

Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - Sam Bennett

Matthew Tkachuk - Mikael Backlund - Austin Czarnik

Dillon Dube - Elias Lindholm - James Neal

Garnet Hathaway - Derek Ryan - Michael Frolik

Defence

Mark Giordano - TJ Brodie

Noah Hanifin - Travis Hamonic

Juuso Valimaki - Rasmus Andersson

Goalie

Mike Smith

So the biggest changes of note are:

  • First Line winger Sam Bennett
  • MMA line reunited
  • Elias Lindholm on the third line
  • T.J. Brodie still on the top pairing
  • Mike Stone scratched so I guess we’ll take our victories where we can
  • Mike Smith will try to get some confidence back today
