In what was probably the worst kept secret of the last month, it appears the Flames and Jaromir Jagr are finished. Bob McKenzie of TSN just tweeted this out:

It’s been a rocky road for the NHL legend and the Flames since Jagr signed with Calgary. Jagr signed after the season started and it took some time for him to get “hockey ready.” The Czech star only played in 22 games for Calgary this season and was hampered by injuries throughout. The Flames placed Jaromir Jagr on IR earlier this month with a nagging lower body injury that he couldn’t seem to shake.

In his 22 games with the Flames this season Jagr has 1 goal and 6 assists and has generated only 32 SOG. Jagr appeared slow at times and that could very well have been a function of this lingering injury issue. While he wasn’t producing on the ice many have praised the work Jagr has put in with the Flames young players.

The hype surrounding his arrival never lived up to itself as he spent most of his time on the Flames 4th line with Matt Stajan and Troy Brouwer. He did see some time with the Flames top line and Jagr did get some PP time as well. In the end you have to wonder what it COULD have been like if Jagr had a full off-season to train and get NHL ready.

Will anyone claim Jaromir Jagr? That’s hard to tell. IF it’s an injury issue that is keeping him from playing, then you’d have to think the answer is “no.” Why would anyone claim a player that hasn’t been able to stay healthy? According to McKenzie Jagr still wants to play, so is this move by the Flames really an injury issue or was this just a bad fit for both parties? Time will tell, but as of now, the Jaromir Jagr Era is over in Calgary and it ended as weirdly as it started.
