What Have The Kansas City Mavericks Been Up To?

The Mavericks have played 10 games since we last checked in on them and they are an even 5-5-0-0 in that time span. It’s been a month of streaks as they had a 3 game losing skid midway through the month and rolled into and out of Christmas with a 3 game winning streak as well.

The Mavericks are currently in 4th place, 6 points behind the Central leading Toledo Walleye, who they have a HUGE 4 game series against later this month. KC’s tight grip on 4th place has been consistent this season as they have been around or just above the .500 mark for the season. The biggest jump in the standings so far has been Fort Wayne as they have gone 7-1-1-0 since our last check in, solidifying their hold on 2nd place.

As for KC, it’s about what you’d expect considering their record. Tyler Parsons still leads in all goaltending categories, but hasn’t played a game since December 16 after being inured. Mason McDonald played the bulk of the last half of the month going 4-3-0-1, but still finds himself with a .892 SV% and has allowed 51 goals on 421 shots. Parsons will see more time when healthy as McDonald was called up to Stockton after Eddie Lack was traded to NJ.

As for the rest of the ice, Mike McMurty continues to lead the team in goals and points, but he’s slowed down over his last 10 games, registering only 2 goals and 3 assists. Those numbers find him 13th in the ECHL in points. Tyler Elbrecht leads the team in PIM with 79, but he’s way behind league leader Garrett Clarke and his 138 sin bin minutes. As for Special Teams the Mavericks are 9th out of 27 in PP% at 19.4, having scored on 25 of the 129 chances they have had. Their penalty kill, that’s a different story. KC is 26th in the ECHL with a PK% of 78%, having surrendered 26 PPG in 118 times being short handed.
