Flames Top 25 Under 25: #20 - Morgan Klimchuk

Klimchuk’s offence is improving and that could see him fighting for a spot with the Flames very soon.

NHL: Preseason-Vancouver Canucks at Calgary Flames Sergei Belski-USA TODAY Sports

#20: Morgan Klimchuk

Position: LW

Age: 22

Team: Stockton Heat

Drafted: 2013 #28 (Round 1)

Last Year Rank: #18

The 22 year old Regina native slides a little bit in our rankings, but not for his play. Klimchuk had a banner season in Stockton last year, scoring 19 goals and notching 24 assists in 61 games for the Heat. That production was miles better than his first full year in Stockton in 2015-16 where he tallied 9 points in 55 games.

The young forward has shown the propensity to score with two 70+ point campaigns with the Regina Pats of the WHL. Minors numbers are always hard to translate to NHL production, but Klimchuk has the ability to put the puck in the net and dish out helpers. His 6’0”, 185 lb frame could use a little more beef, but there’s time for him to get bigger seeing he’s only 22.

Klimchuk has had a taste of the NHL in the preseason, but he has yet to see time with the Flames during the regular season. There are a few jobs up for grabs in Calgary and if Klimchuk keeps playing the way he is, he could be knocking on the door sooner than later.
