Calgary Flames Sign Jon Gillies & David Rittich

The Flames signed their tandem from Stockton last year

The Calgary signed two restricted free agents today, locking up goaltenders Jon Gillies and David Rittich to one year deals.

The goaltenders split the load in Stockton last season, both putting up respectable numbers. Gillies figures to be a big part of the Flames future while their are some question marks on how Rittich will factor in.

Rittich was signed out of the Czech Republic last season and was an afterthought for many, so when he made his NHL debut against San Jose, it came as a surprise.

The Flames have no shortage of young depth at the goaltending position, and this upcoming season will be very interesting to watch them all develop.

Calgary is now up to 42 total contracts and have Sam Bennett, Tyler Wotherspoon, and Brett Kulak as remaining RFA’s.
