The Calgary Flames have made a big splash at the 2017 Entry Draft by acquiring Travis Hamonic from the New York Islanders.
Calgary acquires:
Travis Hamonic
2019 or 2020 4th Round Pick
from New York Islanders for:
2018 1st Round Pick
2018 2nd Round Pick
2019 or 2020 2nd Round Pick
In Hamonic the Flames gets a defenceman with 461 games of experience and he’ll only be 27 at the beginning of the upcoming season. Hamonic has three years left on a contract that pays him 3.86 million dollars per year, so he’s very affordable.
This acquisition has the potential to give the Flames the best top four in the entire NHL. Doesn’t this just sound amazing:
Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Hamonic
Kulak - Somebody Big
Calgary had to give up three high draft picks to get this deal done, but like the Dougie Hamilton trade, it could pay off. The Flames didn’t have to give up a single high value prospect in this organization to get a deal done, so that’s a win but if he flounders those picks might sting.
More to come later. Wow.
