Calgary Flames at Anaheim Ducks [Game 80]

The Calgary Flames and Anaheim Ducks take to the ice having cemented their spot in the playoffs in a game which could be a playoff preview. If both teams stay in the spots that they’re at, they would play each other with the Ducks being the Pacific champions and the Flames taking the first wild card spot. This is hardly a certainty however – the Flames could still finish anywhere from the second wild card spot to second in the Pacific while the Ducks have cemented a non-wild card spot, but could finish anywhere from first to third.

The Flames effort last game was hardly anything stellar and tonight they travel to a building where they’ve won just twice in 18 years. Hopefully tonight they come out a little bit stronger. They’ll roll with routinely active players while Freddie Hamilton, Curtis Lazar, and Dennis Wideman get the healthy scratches.

Chad Johnson gets the start tonight over Brian Elliott who has been a workhorse for the Flames lately. Johnson has drew a bit of ire from the fans as of late, but surprisingly has a better adjusted Fenwick save percentage in five-on-five situations than Elliott has. Johnson will square off against one of the Johns – neither Jonathan Bernier nor John Gibson was announced as the starter before the game. Bernier has been the routine starter, so expect him in net.
