Thunder Thursday: Slow Start in Playoff Series Against the Monarchs

The Adirondack Thunder are down 2-1 in their series against the Buffalo Sabres affiliate.

The Adirondack Thunder (Calgary Flames affiliate) got off to a rocky start in the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs against their rivals, the Manchester Monarchs. The Thunder dropped the first two games by scores of 3-1 and 4-2. They managed to redeem themselves however, taking the third game at home by a score of 3-1.

Friday night, the Thunder’s only goal came off the stick of Ryan Culkin, with assists going to Brett Pollock and Stepan Falkovsky. The game was a close game until the Monarchs sealed the deal with a late empty-net goal to make the final 3-1. J.P. Anderson allowed 2 goals on 23 shots.

Saturday night was more of the same. The two teams traded goals to make it 2-2 after two periods. Alex Wall had both Thunder goals, with assists going to Stepan Falkovsky, Brock Montgomery, and Brett Pollock with 2. Then the Monarchs took the lead in the 3rd period and scored an empty-netter late for the 4-2 win. J.P. Anderson allowed 3 goals on 27 shots.

Tuesday finally saw the Thunder get their first win of the post-season. They got three unanswered goals from Alex Wall, Dennis Kravchenko and Gunnar Hughes. Collecting assists were, James Henry with 2 assists and Cameron Brown, Brian Ward and Dennis Kravchenko each with 1 assist. J.P. Anderson stopped 26 of 27 shots for the win.

The Monarchs are currently winning the best-of-seven series 2-1.

Game 4 of the best-of-seven series goes tonight at 7:00pm EST (5:00pm MST) from the Glens Falls Civic Center.
