Stockton Sunday: Big Playoff Push

A stellar Texas trip puts the Heat right in contention

It took a great five game road trip through Texas, but the Stockton Heat are back in the midst for a playoff spot. During their trip, the Heat went 4-0-1 and picked up nine points to move into a tie for the final playoff spot in the Conference.

The road trip opened with a 5-4 win after the Heat came back from a 4-1 deficit. The next night Stockton fought hard but lost in a shootout 5-4. The Heat completed their trio of games against the Texas Stars with a 4-1 victory on Tuesday.

It was a wild Saturday for the two teams as things got going quickly. Morgan Klimchuk had a big night with two goals and an assist (including the GWG), while Mike Kostka had two assists on the night. Klimchuk may not want to leave Texas after he picked up five goals and three assists in the five games played. Stockton now has points in five straight games and have gone 7-2-1 in their last ten games. Every point is critical to the Heat as they move forward with three tough divisional games next week.

Next Week’s Games

Wednesday: San Diego Gulls @ Stockton Heat

Saturday: San Jose Barracuda @ Stockton Heat

Sunday: Stockton Heat @ San Jose Barracuda

Heat Leading Scorers:

Goals: 26 - Mark Jankowski, 19 - Morgan Klimchuk, 18 - Matt Frattin

Assists: 33 - Linden Vey, 25 - Mark Jankowski, 23 - Morgan Klimchuk

Points: 51 - Mark Jankowski, 48 - Linden Vey, 42 - Morgan Klimchuk

I know I pushed how well Mike Kostka had been doing with the Heat a couple weeks ago, but since his arrival, the Heat have been winning games and he’s been fantastic. He now has 11 points in 10 games and is a +9 with the Heat after having 12 points and a -33 in 46 games with the Senators AHL team.

The Heat and Bakersfield Condors are tied with each having a 0.548 points percentage and a 31-25-6 record with 30 ROW’s. The Condors sit ahead of the Heat based on head-to-head matchups but the two teams meet once more this season. With only six games left, every point matters.

If the Heat can make the playoffs, it’ll be the first time that the Flames and their AHL affiliate have both made the playoffs sine 2006-07. Go Heat Go!
