What Needs To Get Done: 2017 Playoffs Round One

New, comment

What do the Flames need to do to move on to the next round?

NHL: Anaheim Ducks at Calgary Flames Candice Ward-USA TODAY Sports

What needs to get done – To put it simply, revenge. The Flames lost to the Ducks in the second round of the 2015 playoffs. It is time for redemption. We need to see some more from Johnny Hockey. In the last two meetings of the regular season against the Ducks, Gaudreau has put up one assist and a +/- of -3. It’s time for the kid to be the hero Calgary needs. If not him, Kris Versteeg. Versteeg has shown his fondness for playing against the Ducks this season. He has 5 points against the Ducks this season, 3 of them coming in the final two meetings. Number 10 seems to be in the right mindset to take on this team. We need someone to step up to the plate and take the lead during this series.

The Flames have put 119 shots on goal against this team versus Anaheim’s 133 shots against Calgary. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, we need to shoot more. The Ducks tend to hold the Flames to under 28 shots on goal. It’s time to push 30.

What the fans would like to see – Let’s be honest, the fans would have really liked to see a Battle of Alberta to start the playoffs. Sadly, the Oilers will be facing the Sharks in the first round. We can still look forward to this if we can defeat the Ducks and the Oilers best San Jose. The Battle of Alberta to determine a spot in the conference championships? You can count me in.
