The Calgary Flames released a trio of news items this afternoon, the first was not so pleasant, the other two were. Here’s a brief rundown on of all three.
Ferland Monitored for Mumps
#LAKvsCGY Update: Micheal Ferland will not play tonight. He is under observation for the mumps.— Calgary Flames (@NHLFlames) March 19, 2017
On the bright side, they didn’t definitively say that Micheal Ferland has the mumps, just that he’s being monitored. Hopefully this doesn’t turn into anything more.
This couldn’t have come at a worse time for Ferland as he’s been playing the best hockey of his career lately, and hopefully his recovery is swift and he gets back into the lineup soon.
Flames sign G Tyler Parsons
Parsons has been widely regarded as a future #1 goaltender. Today the 2016 2nd round pick signed his entry level contract with the Flames.
Parsons has the best sv% and third best GAA amongst all OHL goaltenders with at least 30 games played this season. With his London Knights expected to go deep into the playoffs, we likely won’t see his professional debut this season.
Flames sign F Ryan Lomberg
The Flames also signed Ryan Lomberg today. Lomberg has made a name for himself with his physical play this season and has put up some points in Stockton to boot.
He burst onto the scene as a pest in the Young Stars Classic and has been a regular in the AHL this season. Could be an interesting signing for the future.
We’ll see you at puck drop for tonight’s game against LA!
