My apologies for dropping the ball on my Stockton Sunday pieces as I got really busy on weekends, and the Heat also had a really rough stretch which made it harder to write about.
So let’s get to it.
The Heat currently sit at 10th in the AHL’s Western Conference with a points percentage of 0.519. Their record is 25-23-5.
After an amazing start to the season which had them leading the division for awhile, things fell apart to the tune of 13 losses in 14 games at one point.
However the Heat have started to bounce back of late with three straight wins and six wins in their last eight games.
The Heat defeated the Bakersfield Condors (Oilers) on Saturday night in a crucial game. The Condors occupy the eighth and final seed in the Conference. With the loss, Bakersfield’s points percentage dropped to 0.537.
With their victory, the Heat’s playoff chances jumped up to around 35% according to sportsclubstats.com. While those odds seem long, I remind you that when I started doing Flames playoff update pieces, they had playoff odds of 26.4%.
The Heat have a very tough week ahead with four games against the top three Western Conference teams in the Grand Rapids Griffins, San Diego Gulls, and San Jose Barracude (x2).
Those three teams are a combined 22-5-3 in their last ten games played (30 games total). Making ground won’t be easy.
Here’s the Heat schedule this week:
Sunday: Grand Rapids Griffins @ Stockton Heat
Wednesday: Stockton Heat @ San Diego Gulls
Friday: Stockton Heat @ San Jose Barracuda
Saturday: San Jose Barracuda @ Stockton Heat
The Heat have had to deal with a plethora of uncertainty in their lineup this season whether it was callups, injures, or pure inconsistency. Here’s an update of their scoring leaders and goaltending stats:
Goals: 22 - Mark Jankowski, 16 - Matt Frattin, 14 - Morgan Klimchuk
Assists: 27 - Linden Vey, 19 - Rasmus Andersson, Mark Jankowski 18 - Morgan Klimchuk
Points: 41 - Mark Jankowski, 39 - Linden Vey, 32 - Matt Frattin, Morgan Klimchuk
Jon Gillies, 33 GP, 13-14-2, 2.94GAA, 0.910 sv%
David Rittich, 22 GP, 11-9-5, 2.09GAA, 0.929 sv%
I’m going to try to get back to regular Heat updates next week, but the latest is that they’re on the outside looking in with 15 games to go in their regular season (AHL Pacific only plays 68 games).
The Heat have some ground to make up and will probably need at least 9-10 wins the rest of the way to really be in the conversation. Nevertheless it’ll be an exciting push!
