Calgary Inferno set a franchise record with 38 points with two games left

The Calgary Inferno hosted the Boston Blades over the weekend, and as the season is coming to an end in a couple weeks, the ladies look to be in top form heading into the playoffs. The Inferno won both games against the Blades setting a new franchise record for points in a season with 38. The Inferno just need a single point against Les Canadiennes Montreal next weekend to clinch first place.

Action on Saturday saw the Inferno blasting the Blades by a score of 9-2. Calgary scored first, scored quick, and scored often with Meaghan Mikkelson leading the charge just 33 seconds into the game assisted by Jessica Campbell and Sarah Davis. Before the 1st period ended, the Inferno got three more goals from Campbell, Louise Warren and Bailey Bram. Assists went to Blayre Turnbull, Brittany Esposito, Jessica Campbell and Meaghan Mikkelson with three assists. The 2nd period was more of the same with Mikkelson scoring at 4:13 and goals also coming from Iya Gavrilova, Brittany Esposito, Brianne Jenner and Rebecca Johnston. Johnston, Gavrilova, Bailey Bram, Jill Saulnier, Jenner, and Haley Irwin all collected assists. After nine unanswered goals, the Blades scored the only two goals in the 3rd period. Delayne Brian stopped 12 of 14 shots for her 7th win of the season.

Sunday’s game was no different as the Inferno fired 47 shots at the Boston Blades netminder in a 4-0 win. Bailey Bram opened the scoring with just under two minutes left in the 1st period, assisted by Brigette Lacquette and Rebecca Johnston. The 2nd period goals came from Brianne Jenner and Jill Saulnier, with assists going to Rebecca Johnston, Brigette Lacquette, Brianne Jenner and Iya Gavrilova. Brigette Lacquette finished the scoring in the 3rd period on the power-play. Assists went to Jessica Campbell and Bailey Bram. Genevieve Lacasse stopped all 14 shots she faced for her first shut-out and 8th win of the season.

Brianne Jenner is leading the team scoring with 9 goals and 17 assists for 26 points in 18 games (5th in CWHL). Bailey Bram is 2nd in team scoring with 12 goals and 10 assists for 22 points in 20 games (6th in CWHL).

Goaltender Genevieve Lacasse leads the team with 8 wins (2nd in the CWHL). Lacasse also leads the team with a 1.62 goals against average (2nd in the CWHL). Emerance Maschmeyer leads the team and CWHL with a save percentage of 0.939.

The Inferno will close out the regular season next weekend when they take on Les Canadiennes Montreal at the WinSport Arena in Calgary. Game times are Saturday, February 18th @ 8:15pm EST/6:15pm MST and Sunday, February 19th @ 2:30am EST/12:30pm MST.
