Our latest look at the Flames chances and teams around them

Another week of NHL action is in the books and here’s your latest update. Again all % come from sportsclubstats.com

Calgary Flames (27-25-3, 57 pts) 9th in West; Playoff Chances: 38.2% (+12.0%)

Last Five Games: 3-2-0

Next Five Games: 07/02 @ PIT, 13/02 vs ARI, 15/02 vs PHI, 18/02 @ VAN, 21/02 @ NSH

Despite being knocked out of a playoff spot, the Flames playoff chances improved by a decent amount this past week. Prior to a Sunday loss to the Rangers, the Flames were looking strong as they rattled off two wins against Minnesota and New Jersey. They have the same amount of points as the Blues but St. Louis has two games in hand, not ideal.

Los Angeles Kings (27-22-4, 58 pts) 1st Wild Card Spot; Playoff Chances: 87.5% (+8.4%)

Last Five Games: 4-1-0

Next Five Games: 07/02 @ TB, 09/02 @ FLA, 16/02 vs ARI, 18/02 vs FLA, 19/02 @ ANA

The Kings stayed red hot and were on a long winning streak up until a 5-0 schlacking at the hands of the Washington Capitals on Sunday. Nevertheless the Kings only seem to be getting better and may move into contention for a divisional playoff spot soon.

St. Louis Blues (26-22-5, 57 pts) 2nd Wild Card Spot; Playoff Chances: 66.7% (+0.5%)

Last Five Games: 2-3-0

Next Five Games: 07/02 @ OTT, 09/02 @ TOR, 11/02 @ MTL, 15/02 @ DET, 16/02 vs VAN

The Blues fired long time head coach Ken Hitchcock on Wednesday, but followed it up with a strong 5-1 victory over Toronto. They then lost 4-1 to the Penguins and lost Robby Fabbri with a season ending injury. A 2-0 win on Monday got them into a playoff spot but with Kevin Shattenkirk’s future up in the air, and the Blues inconsistency, some are suggesting the Blues may tear it down this year which would help the Flames immensely.

Winnipeg Jets (25-26-4, 54 pts) 10th in West; Playoff Chances: 14.7%

Last Five Games: 3-2-0

Next Five Games: 07/02 vs MIN, 10/02 vs CHI, 11/02 vs TB, 14/02 vs DAL, 16/02 @ PIT

The Jets brought their playoff chances back up with wins over St. Louis and Dallas however a loss to the league worse Avalanche really hurt their cause. With the same number of games played as the Flames, and three points behind, they aren’t still a huge threat.

Dropped Out: Vancouver Canucks 5.6% (-9.3%), Dallas Stars 8.6% (-6.0%)

Both teams have tough weeks and they fall to 11th and 12th in the Conference respectively. My minimum for listing teams with playoff chances will be around 15%.

We’ll be back again next week to update the latest changes in the playoff percentages. The Flames only have one game between now and next Monday so I don’t expect to see a lot of change but maybe they can get some help. Go Flames!
