Flames Acquire Dalton Prout from Devils for Eddie Lack

The Flames made a minor trade today

The Calgary Flames made their first trade of the 2017-18 season today by sending goaltender Eddie Lack to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for defenceman Daltin Prout.

Prout cleared waivers yesterday while Lack cleared earlier in the season. There is little ramification to either NHL side from this trade, but for the Flames it will give Tyler Parsons a roster spot in Stockton this season.

Prout has 242 games of NHL experience split between the Devils and the Columbus Blue Jackets. He’s dressed for four games this season and was sent down to the Devils AHL affiliate yesterday. He’ll likely report to Stockton.

He’s in the final year of a two year contract that days him $1.575 million annually. He has a cap hit of 550k when buried in Stockton.

Essentially the Flames used an extra 200k of cap space to clear room for Parsons to continue his progression into the AHL.
