Calgary Flames at Edmonton Oilers [Game 1]

The puck finally drops

The puck finally drops tonight as the Calgary Flames take on the Edmonton Oilers. The Flames have a new look with Kris Versteeg, Troy Brouwer, Matthew Tkachuk, Alex Chiasson, Nicklas Grossmann, and Brian Elliott get their first looks in Flames uniforms. Suffice it to say Calgary was active in the offseason.

Edmonton’s biggest debut is their shiny new building. Beyond that, Milan Lucic and Adam Larsson look to impress in their new uniforms. While the team looks new, it doesn’t look all that improved.

The biggest storyline beyond the obvious Flames/Oilers rivalry is Kris Russell facing his former team. The all-heart defenseman often finds himself on the wrong side of the possession ledger. Watch the new six million dollar men, Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan could be a real treat for Flames fans who at times grew tired of watching Russell stuck in his own end.

Here's to a great season. Go Flames go!
