The Stockton Heat have come flying out of the gate to start the 2017-18 season. This past week went especially well for the Heat as they went 2-0-1, and have gone 4-0-1 in their last five games.
Overall the Heat are sitting at 6-2-1 on the year which has them 1st in the Pacific Division based on points and 3rd based on points percentage.
The Heat have had strong seasons from a number of key Flames prospects, but some other names are starting to make an impact as well.
Goals: 6 - Garnet Hathaway, 5 - Mark Jankowski, Andrew Mangiapane, 4 - Morgan Klimchuk
Assists: 10 - Andrew Mangiapane, 6 - Garnet Hathaway, Oliver Kylington, Rasmus Andersson
Points: 15 - Andrew Mangiapane, 12 - Garnet Hathaway, 8 - Mark Jankowski, Marek Hrivik
Goalies: Jon Gillies (4-1-1, 2.31 GAA, 0.924 sv%, 1 Shutout), David Rittich (2-1, 2.67 GAA, 0.916 sv%, 1 Shutout)
Andrew Mangiapane leads the entire AHL in points, two ahead of the next closest skater. Not bad for a 6th round pick from a few years ago. Jon Gillies has also had a solid start to the season, putting up good numbers with four victories in six starts.
Here’s highlights from a pair of Heat wins over Bakersfield this weekend.
Stockton will take on the Manitoba Moose (4-3-1) and Texas Stars (5-3-1) this week, both home games in Stockton.
It’ll be interesting to see whether Mark Jankowski returns to the Heat this week or not (he shouldn’t but it wouldn’t shock me if he did). If so, we would see the reuniting of the Mangiapane-Jankowski-Hathaway line which looked so good early, but I’d way rather have him in Calgary.
The kids are coming along just fine!
