The Flames placed Jaromir Jagr on the injured reserve list this afternoon due to a lower body injury he sustained in the Flames 4-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday night. Calgary has recalled Mark Jankowski from Stockton to fill Jagr’s roster spot.

While losing Jagr will certainly slow down the progress that the top line was making, it will open the door for Mark Jankowski to step into an NHL role. Jankowski has been lighting up the AHL with the Heat and was looking like he would earn a spot with the Flames during the preseason. In six games with the Heat this season Jankowski has 8 points (5G 3A), is a +8 and has 27 SOG. He’s been the key any of Stockton’s success and his play certainly was going to force the Flames hand at some point this season. Jankowski played in 1 NHL game last season and didn’t register a point, but also didn’t look out of place.

Jaromir Jagr has played in 5 games so far this season and has 2 assists and 9 SOG. While his 5 games are a small sample size he’s shown real chemistry with Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan since being promoted up to the top line. Jagr could return to the Flames lineup on Sunday when the Flames take on the Washington Capitals. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come for the 45 year old NHL vet. In the meantime it’s showtime for Mark Jankowski.
