Calgary Flames waive Marek Hrivik

Published

Marek Hrivik has been snake-bitten with injuries since he arrived with the Calgary Flames organization. Many expected him to make the Flames with a good preseason this year, but unfortunately he was injured and started the season on the injured reserve list as Calgary signed Tanner Glass. Today, Hrivik was placed on waivers to stockton.

Marek Hrivik (CGY) has also been placed on waivers today.

Much like one cannot blame Hrivik for his injuries, one cannot blame the Flames for attempting to send him back down. While it’s something that plagues the sport (and as some have argued this team), Hockey shouldn’t be a meritocracy where something is given rather than earned. Should he clear, he’ll have a much more ample opportunity to prove he belongs back with the Stockton Heat.

With this maneuver the Flames officially have 23 men on their roster with nobody on the injured reserve. There have been some dim spots in the lineup despite the three and one record, but other prospects such as Andrew Mangiapane, Mark Jankowski, and Garnet Hathaway have started off torrid hot with the Heat and may have passed Hrivik in terms of who gets a look should the Flames need some help. With all that being said, it’s quite possible Hrivik never sees a game in a Flames uniform even if he does clear waivers.
