Edmonton Easily Embarrasses Flames

Just a disgusting performance

For the fourth and final time this season the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers met for a Battle of Alberta tilt. The Oilers won the last meeting 2-1 in a shootout a week ago, and also won the previous two battles back in October. An Oiler win tonight would mean they sweep the season series for the first time ever.

Chad Johnson got the start for the Flames while Laurent Brossoit got his first start of the year for Edmonton. Sam Bennett also returned to the ice after being scratched last game.

1st Period

For the 7th game in a row the Flames would fall behind 1-0 as Anton Slepyshev would wrist a shot off the faceoff over Johnson.

The Oilers would then make it 2-0 with Mark Letestu putting a one timer past Johnson.

Then minutes later the Oilers would make it 3-0 with Jordan Eberle burying a shot from the right side and that would spell the end of the night for Johnson as Elliott entered the game.

Three goals on five shots and it’s all Edmonton and I’m ready to call it a night.

The Flames would show their first energy of the night when Deryk Engelland and Milan Lucic got into a heated scrap with both guys landing strong shots.

Other than that, the Flames would actually play decently the rest of the period getting their fair share of opportunities while the Oilers got theirs.

It’s 3-0 Edmonton after twenty minutes with shots 13-8 for Calgary.

2nd Period

The Flames would get a man advantage to start the period with Matthew Tkachuk getting knocked over after the whistle.

Edmonton would make it 4-0 with Connor McDavid getting a shot from the slot with Wideman essentially covering Elliott’s line of sight.

Sam Bennett would then be sent off for roughing to give the Oilers their first PP. But the Flames would do something positive and kill it off.

The Oilers would then make it 5-0 with a redirection from Jordan Eberle off a point shot.

Matthew Tkachuk would score on a Flames powerplay to make it 5-1.

Edmonton would get their lead back to five with Klefbom blasting a shot from the point for a powerplay goal as it’s 6-1.

The second period ends with a 6-1 Oiler lead and unfortunately there’s a third period ahead for the Flames. Shots are 29-23 for the Flames.

3rd Period

The Flames would get a shorthanded goal from Sean Monahan to make it 6-2 28 seconds into the period.

Then the middle part of the period would happen and frankly nothing happened as both teams settled down.

The Flames would make it 6-3 with Lance Bouma deflecting a shot with 4:11 to go. Deja vu from last night?

Nope.

Ryan Nugent Hopkins would hit the empty net to make it 7-3 Edmonton.

The Oilers destroy the Flames and man oh man is something work with the Flames.

The Good

The Bad

The Ugly

The Flames are back in action Monday night when they begin their East Coast swing, and man they’ll need to get their poop in a group if they want to have any chance against the young Leafs.

I can’t stomach writing anymore about this game. Have a good night everyone!
