The Flames took another hit, literally, at the World Cup of Hockey on Tuesday. Mikael Backlund took a vicious hit and is now reportedly out with a concussion for the remainder of the tournament. Backlund played in two of Sweden’s games and hadn’t registered a point in either game. Here’s the hit Backlund took yesterday that lead to the reported concussion:

The Flames start the regular season in less than a month, so it would make sense to hold Backlund out for the rest of the World Cup of Hockey. Sean Monahan is the other Flames player who had to pull out the World Cup with an injury. Monahan injured his back early on and never saw the ice for any of the games.
Keep it here for any updates regarding Backlund’s condition.
