The Calgary Flames announced today that they would be returning to their retro style jerseys this year as their third jerseys. The Flames have worn this uniform the past few years only on retro nights, and chose for it to return as their 3rd jersey after an absence of three years.
These jerseys were the main alternate for the Flames from the 2009-2010 season through the 2012-13 season. They replace the jerseys I affectionately call the “children’s pyjama” jersey worn as the alternate the past three seasons.
The Flames wore this style of jersey from 1980-81 through 1993-94. They will be wearing the jerseys 12 times out of 41 home dates this season.
The dates where the Flames will be wearing the retro jersey are as follows:
- October 14th vs Edmonton (Home Opener)
- October 22nd vs St. Louis
- November 12th vs New York Rangers
- November 18th vs Chicago
- December 10th vs Winnipeg
- December 31st vs Arizona
- January 7th vs Vancouver
- January 21st vs Edmonton
- February 15th vs Philadelphia
- March 9th vs Montreal
- March 19th vs Los Angeles
- April 2nd vs Anaheim (Fan Appreciation Night)
For those who are big fans of these jerseys, you’ll have your chance to get your fill in this season! Preseason starts in just 5 days! Who’s pumped for Flames hockey!?!?
