Calgary Flames General Manager Brad Treliving has announced that newly-signed Forward Sean Monahan has sustained a back strain during training and has been forced to back out of the World Cup of Hockey later this month.
Monahan, who just signed a 7-year contract extension worth $44.6 million, will be replaced by Florida Panthers Forward Vincent Trocheck on the Team North America roster.
The injury is not believed to be a long-term injury and that Monahan will be a full participant in training camp.
