#15: Daniel Pribyl

Position: F

Age: 23

Team: HC Sparta Praha (Czech)

Draft: 2011 #168 (Round 6 Montreal Canadiens)

Daniel Pribyl was signed by the Flames as a free agent on April 29, 2016. The 6’3 Czech forward had played his entire career so far overseas. Originally drafted by the Canadiens, Pribyl was let go and Calgary scooped him up on a 2 year entry level deal. The contract pays him $925,000 if he’s in the NHL, but the AHL end of the deal pays him $70,000. A fairly low risk, high reward type scenario.

Pribyl’s best season so far was for the HC Sparta Praha U20 team back in 2010-11. In 41 games he poured in 58 points, 27 of them goals. He also managed a whopping 88 penalty minutes in 44 games during the 2008-09 season where he played U18 for HC Sparta Praha.

Daniel Pribyl has yet to set foot on NHL ice, but the Flames seemed to see enough in him that they jumped on him quickly last spring and inked him for 2 years. Like all prospects from overseas it’s hard to judge where these kids will land, but at 23 the Flames think they have something in Pribyl and they’ll get a much better look when he dons the Stockton Heat sweater this Fall.
