#19: Brett Kulak
Position: D
Age: 22
Team: Stockton Heat
Drafted: 2012 #105 (Round 4)
We’re now getting into some of the players the Flames have had a good chunck of time to look at and Brett Kulak fits that description perfectly. The 6’1 defenceman was drafted by the Flames in 2012 and is currently on the roster of the Stockton Heat. His breakout season came in 2013-14 with the Vancouver Giants where he tallied 60 points in 69 games. Last season was Kulak’s first large sample size (59 games) with the Heat and he put the puck in the net 3 times, while collecting 14 assists.
Kulak has has 2 very quick cups of coffee with the Flames in 2014-15 (1 game) and 2015-2016 (8 games) and hasn’t registered a point and is a cumulative -2. The big club is chock full of defenceman, but another good showing this season in Stockton could go a long way to helping Kulak pave his path to Calgary. Kulak was named the Top Defensive Player of the Stockton Heat at the end of the season.
