Adam Fox was an intriguing pick by in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Flames as they continue to stockpile young talent on defence. Adam Fox is young and will not be on the Flames radar in Calgary for a while. Long term prospects are always hard to gauge, but Fox will have plenty of time to hone his craft playing in the NCAA at Harvard University. The Crimson play a tough schedule inside and outside of the Ivy League and it will give Fox the chance to build his skills and his resume while the Flames watch from a distance. There are 8 defencemen on Harvard’s roster ahead of Fox, 5 of them upper classmen, so he has his work cut out for him to get ice time. Looking at his stats he can certainly put the puck in the net, but playing in the NCAA and against the best American college has to offer is a different story. There’s no rush on Fox and the Flames will have plenty of time to assess what they have in Fox and if the risk/reward is what they thought it was when they drafted him #66 overall this past June. Calgary did get an up close look at Adam Fox this summer when he skated at the Flames developmental camp in July and scored a goal in a scrimmage shootout.
