The final selections for the eight teams at the World Cup of Hockey were announced on Friday. The World Cup of Hockey will take place in September prior to the start of the 2016-17 NHL season. The tournament will be played in Toronto. The majority of players had already been selected to their teams back in March and today the teams rounded out their respective rosters.

Calgary Flames Players Named to Team Rosters:

  • D Jyrki Jokipakka named to Finland today
  • D Jakub Nakladal named to the Czech Republic today
  • F Michael Frolik named to the Czech Republic back in March
  • F Sean Monahan named to Team North America back in March
  • F Johnny Gaudreau named to Team North America back in March

The Flames will send 5 players to the tournament in the fall with Gaudreau and Monahan poised to be key players on the North American U23 team. However it could've been even more players but there were a few Flames omissions from rosters today.

  • F Mikael Backlund left off Sweden
  • D Dougie Hamilton left off North America
  • D TJ Brodie left off Canada
  • D Mark Giordano left off Canada

The tournament will run September 17 to October 1st and will be the first World Cup of Hockey since Canada won the tournament over Finland back in 2004.
