Stockton Heat Update: No Playoff Push This Season

The Heat have had their trials and tribulations throughout the season, but the season isn't a complete write-off.

Stockton has had its ups and downs this season. Mostly downs, kind of like the Flames but not as badly, and it seems the Heat will not be making an appearance in the AHL playoffs. With 64 points (coming in second to last place before the San Antonio Rampage) and only 5 games left, they sit in 6th place in the Pacific Division.

But not all is lost. The Heat was stocked with a lot of talent, many of whom got their chance at a recall to the Calgary Flames throughout the season. Hunter Shinkaruk was called up to the Flames after playing 59 games and earning 26 goals and 23 assists. Kenny Agostino got called up to Calgary as well in March on an emergency basis. Emile Poirier, Tyler Wotherspoon, Brett Kulak, and Freddie Hamilton were also called up by the Flames, all of which were sent back down after a short run in the NHL.

Derek Grant remains with the Flames right now after garnering 27 goals and 18 assists in 36 games with the Heat. So far, in 14 games with Calgary he’s earned a lone assist, but he’s been quite the impact in the NHL with his physical play. After breaking his jaw earlier in the AHL season, he returned to the Heat and made quite an impact before being called up the Flames.

Drew Shore is the latest in a string of players being called up. Shore was called up to replace Lance Bouma, who was recently injured and will miss the remaining 2 games in the NHL. Shore has played 56 games with Stockton and earned 35 points throughout.

With only 5 games left this season, the Heat have won 2 of the last 3, and we hope they can keep up the pace against the San Diego Gulls, Bakersfield Condors, and San Jose Barracudas.
