The losing streak hits 7 as the Flames fall 6-3 to the Sabres

The Calgary Flames losing streak was extended Thursday night in Buffalo as they fell 6-3 to the Sabres.

It was a slow start for the Flames as they only mustered 4 shots in the first period, but it wasn't for the lack of effort. The forecheck was there and effective but they just couldn't generate shots. The second opened up with 5 total goals and 30 combined shots. The third was more of the same for Buffalo but Calgary couldn't generate a whole lot of anything. Managed a goal by Monahan but the was it. 3 more goals by Buffalo and the damaged had been done.

A very poor job at staying out of the penalty box as Buffalo was awarded 8 power plays, albeit they only scored on one but it's hard to be that undisciplined and win hockey games on a consistent basis.

Thumbs up to Garnet Hathaway again tonight. He was all over the ice again tonight as he got his first 2 NHL points tonight, to go along with a great physical game.

Thumbs down to Jonas Hiller. 4 of the 5 goals he surrendered tonight were over his shoulders. I won’t fault him on the Eichel goal, that was a seeing eye shot from the point that even the best goalie in the league isn’t stopping 9 time out of 10. In my personal opinion there is no reason to start him again at all this season, considering he probably won’t be coming back to Calgary next year.
