Calgary Flames at Minnesota Wild [Game #74 Thread]

It's game time.

The Calgary Flames are headed to Minnesota as they take on the Minnesota wild as their season is beginning to wind down. The games are basically nothing more than a formality at this point for the Flames as they could win out and would still only have a two and a half percent chance at the playoffs. Had they not lost their last game they may have stood a chance, but Jonas Hiller put forth an incredibly insipid performance and they were downed by the Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of five to two.

Niklas Backstrom will be in net tonight squaring off against his former team. While the start was probably planned all along since they acquired him, the fact that the 38 year old netminder that’s playing in his second game in a year in a half is the hot hand is really all anybody needs to know about the state of Calgary’s goaltending this year. Joni Ortio will be backing him up.

On the other side of the ice will be Devan Dubnyk. Dubnyk is coming off of a phenomenal game where he only allowed one goal in 39 shots on net against the Los Angeles Kings. The Flames will get to see their old right winger David Jones as he slides in on Minnesota’s second pairing as well.
